Booster pump fault finding
A booster pump failure can show up as low pressure, no water, pump alarms, repeated starting and stopping, tripping electrics, leaking pipework, noisy running or a booster set that will not maintain pressure.
Safe checks before calling
These checks can help identify the issue without opening electrical panels or working on pressurised parts.
- Check whether the power supply is on and whether any obvious breaker has tripped
- Check whether the control panel display is showing a fault code or alarm
- Check whether the pump is running continuously, not running at all or cycling on and off
- Check whether there is water in the break tank or incoming supply
- Take photos of the pump set, pressure gauge, control panel and any fault display
Common causes of booster pump failure
Typical causes include failed pump motors, worn seals, low inlet water, faulty floats, pressure vessel loss of charge, pressure sensor failure, inverter or variable speed drive faults, blocked strainers, non-return valve problems, leaking pipework and control panel faults.
Repair or replacement advice
Where repair is practical, the aim is to restore reliable operation. Where parts are obsolete, the pump is repeatedly failing or the system is poorly sized, replacement may be the better long-term option.
